China's Online Boom: The world's largest internet population

At 134 million in 2006, China already has the world's second-largest Internet population. And, coupled with the fact that its online population is growing at 30% a year, the country will soon overtake the US to have the most online users in the world.
Last year, online retail was a $2.5 billion industry in China, despite the security concerns and low spending power that are slowing sales. China also has the fastest-growing online ad industry in the world, valued at $1 billion in 2006. And three out of four Chinese Internet users take part in social networking sites.
